Dilip Kumar, Civil Infrastructure Management Consultant, Stantec

Dr. Kumar is a highly experienced Civil Infrastructure Management Consultant who has demonstrated the ability to lead diverse teams of professionals to new levels of success for the municipal clients around the world.  He has strong technical and business qualifications with an impressive track record of more than 19 years of hands-on experience throughout the world on a wide variety of engineering, consulting, asset management, strategic planning, and systems engineering strategies. He has also worked in the MWH, now part of Stantec’s UK, Europe, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Middle East, Turkey and the USA offices – focused on utilizing right skills in delivering infrastructure projects.

Dynamic Infrastructure Master Planning (MP 2.0++)

“Big data” and the Internet of Things have begun to change every aspect of our lives. Yet it seems the practice of master planning has some catching up to do. Even now, too many utilities and consultants follow a traditional approach: build a model, prepare a plan, and set a capital improvement program (CIP).  Unfortunately, if an asset breaks prior to its planned replacement date, it has to be addressed, rendering a static CIP immediately out-of-date.

We need to move beyond a project mentality towards building an integrated, reliable and efficient network that anticipates future demands, and allows for investment in critical new infrastructure in a timely and innovative way. Instead of static maps or tables shown in technical memorandum which often sits on the shelf, technology has the capability to maintain a living CIP database.
